About Government Solar Panel Scheme
An independent guide to the government-backed schemes that can pay towards solar panels. Not a government website, not an installer.
How This Site Works
GovernmentSolarPanelScheme.co.uk is an independent guide. It is run by SEO Dons Ltd, a private company. It is not a government website and has no connection with GOV.UK, Ofgem, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero or any council, despite the name.
The site explains the government-backed routes that can pay towards solar panels (ECO4 until 31 December 2026, the Warm Homes: Local Grant in England, 0% VAT until 31 March 2027 and the Smart Export Guarantee), who runs each one and how you apply. Each fact is checked against Ofgem or gov.uk, and the date we checked it is kept on record.
When you use the eligibility checker, we reply by email to say which routes your answers point to. We do not pass your details to installers, we take no fee from installers, and we do not apply to any scheme on your behalf. You apply to the energy supplier, council or scheme yourself.
We do not install solar panels and hold no installer accreditation. Whoever installs your system should be checked on the MCS register (and the TrustMark register for ECO4 work) before you sign. How we handle your answers is set out in the privacy policy.

We re-check scheme dates and rules on Ofgem and gov.uk rather than repeating sales claims.
What This Site Is
An independent guide, not a government website. Here is what it does, what it does not do, and how your answers are handled.
Independent Guide
The site explains the government schemes, grants and incentives available for solar panel installation across the UK, and which households each one is designed for.
Eligibility Checker
The eligibility checker asks the questions that determine which route fits your circumstances: property type, ownership, EPC rating, benefits and heating. It is free to use.
How Enquiries Are Handled
We reply by email. We do not pass your details to installers and we take no fee from them.
Not An Installer
This site does not install solar panels, employ engineers or hold installer accreditation. Whoever installs your system should be checked on the MCS register before you sign.
Our Approach
Every home is different, so the checker asks the same questions the schemes ask: property type, ownership, EPC rating, benefits and heating. Your answers decide which routes are worth your time.
Savings figures for solar depend on your roof and how much electricity you use at home, so this site does not quote them. A written estimate for your own roof, from an MCS-certified installer, is the number to rely on.
If you go ahead with an installer, ask for the workmanship warranty, the panel and inverter warranties and the MCS certificate in writing before work starts, and apply for a Smart Export Guarantee tariff once the system is commissioned.
